Twenty One Elephants and Still Standing by April Jones Prince
This is a well researched and wonderfully illustrated account of the aftermath of the building of the Brooklyn Bridge. While the bridge certainly looked wonderful, Americans were unwilling to put their complete trust in its construction. When P. T. Barnum heard this, he walked all twenty-one of his elephants, including the famous Jumbo, across the mile long bridge to prove that it would not fall down.
