Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

Charlie Gordon is a mentally challenged janitor who volunteers for an experimental procedure that enhances intelligence. The same treatment was earlier applied to a mouse named Algernon.

The story is told through diary entries made by Charlie.

The book has been banned from a number of school libraries for sexual content and is on the American Library Association list of the 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990-2000.
